Stephen Ferris believes that Chris Farrell can take up the mantle in the centre for Ireland against Wales.

Speaking on Off the Ball, the former Ireland international backed the Munster man to step into the role vacated by Robbie Henshaw due to injury.

“There are a couple of options that Joe can choose from. However, I think Chris Farrell – even though he’s not in the match day 23 with the squad, he’s been on the pitch in the warm-ups in the lead up to the French game and the Italian game. So I think he’s the man that knows all the calls inside out. If there was an injury in any of those warm-ups that he would be the next man in, so I think Chris Farrell might get the nod.”

“He’s a big man, he’s very, very fit – this game that the Welsh are going to play, they are going to run the Irish off their feet. We’ve heard it all before. If there’s one man to have in there... yes, he’s a big guy but I think him and Bundee Aki in the centre would trouble any back line in world rugby, so it’s going to be very interesting to see – especially with Ringrose apparently getting a little bit of game time this week. “

You can hear Stephen’s conversation with Joe and Keith Wood on the Off the Ball podcast, and tune in every Wednesday for Wednesday Night Rugby.
