Bohemians star Ayman Ben Mohamed is set to become an international footballer.

The winger has been called into the Tunisian squad for an African Cup of Nations qualifier next month.

They face Djibouti on 3rd June.

Ben Mohamed, who was born in London but moved to Ireland with his family when he was two, qualifies to play for Tunisia through his father, who was born there.

The 21-year-old has admitted his excitement at the news.

"I'm delighted. Nobody saw it coming. I've had lots of relatives on congratulating me - it's huge for me and my family.

"It's one of the biggest challenges I've ever faced in football. I'll be training and competing with players from the Premier League, La Liga and the Bundesliga.

"That is an incredible opportunity for me and it is good for the profile of the club and league too. It shows we have a good stage here to develop."

Bohs manager Keith Long is equally delighted by the news, despite it meaning he will miss two Airtricity League games- against St Patrick's Athletic and Wexford Youths.

"He'll miss two games for us but it's great for him and the club. He's been a real breath of fresh air and I'm delighted for him.

"He's a real throwback to an old-school winger. He loves to take players on and he has a bit of pace about him too.

"He came to the club to improve and develop as a player, so it's deserved recognition for the contribution he's made."

His club captain at Bohs Derek Pender spoke about the tricky winger to 98FM’s Jamie Moore this week on our League of Ireland podcast:

Bohemians have not won or scored a goal in their last seven games as they prepare to face Galway in the FAI Cup on Friday.
