Dublin's- as yet unknown- new hurling manager will face a very different Leinster Championship from next year.

The All-Ireland hurling championship is going through a massive revamp, after a GAA Special Congress vote at Croke Park today.

The Leinster and Munster Championships will now be played in a five-team round robin format.

Each team will have two home and two away games, with the top two in each round robin group reaching the respective provincial finals.

The provincial final winners will move onto the All-Ireland semi-final, while the runners up will go to an All-Ireland quarter-final.

The third placed team in each provincial round robin group will play the two finalists from the Tier 2 competition, with the winners of this match progressing to the All-Ireland quarter-final.

The new system comes into effect from 2018 and will be in place for the next three years at least.
