Bastien Hery joins Derry City on loan from Bohemians

Bohemians flop Bastien Hery has joined Derry City on loan until the end of the season.

The Madagascar international midfielder joined Bohs from Linfield in January, with manager Keith Long hoping he'd add "great experience, ability and personality" to the Gypsies.

Things haven't gone to plan, however, with Hery yet to start a game for Bohemians and managing just five substitute appearances.

An unused substitute in last week's UEFA Europa Conference League win away to Dudelange, Hery was then left out of the squad that travelled to Cork for their FAI Cup first round win over College Corinthians.

"I know the past 18 months probably haven’t worked out for him the way he planned but he’ll get the opportunity here to get back on track," said Derry manager Ruaidhrí Higgins.

"He’s fit and raring to go and will go straight into the squad for Saturday night’s match in Longford.”

Hery himself added, "I’m very happy to be here and having played at Brandywell a few times I’m looking forward to showing supporters what I can do.

“Yes I feel I have a point to prove and that can be my motivation to do well for Derry City. It will be good to get started.”

Hery will be hoping to recapture his form at Waterford during the 2018 season that saw him named in the PFAI team of the year.

"Derry City fans have seen Bastien play before and know what he’s capable of," Higgins said, "He’s someone I’ve obviously known about for some time and is the type of player we’ve been looking for.”
