Romelu Lukaku scored his 50th goal for Everton with just nine minutes on the clock, to earn a valuable Premier League point at Goodison Park.

Crystal Palace were heading for five wins from their last five Merseyside trips thanks to a header from boyhood Liverpool fan, Scott Dann five minutes earlier.

Lukaku was denied the landmark goal in blue by the crossbar, just before bundling home the leveller, the third time the woodwork saved Palace's bacon, after the striker drilled one from the edge of the box.

Roberto Martinez's men failed to make it three consecutive home league wins but remain unbeaten in the top-flight since their late October defeat to Arsenal.

They move into 9th place while the Eagles are up to 6th.

Republic of Ireland midfielder James McCarthy missed his second game for the Toffees after failing to pass a late fitness on the hip injury that kept him out of the League Cup win against Middlesbrough last week.
