Sick Air Traffic Controllers Lead To Delays At Dublin Airport

Sick leave at Dublin Airport has resulted in backed up flights.

A shortage of air traffic controllers meant Dublin airspace had to close twice on Monday.

Seven flights were left in a holding pattern over Knock Airport on Monday because Dublin Airspace had to close.

While there were three shutdowns of overnight arrivals for 30 minutes each time on Monday and yesterday.

It's due to a number of issues including unscheduled sick leave - resulting in a lack of available Air Traffic Controllers .

Airnav is the statutory body which is responsible for air traffic control in Irish airspace.

One senior air traffic controller told the Irish Examiner there is an issue with low morale because of the workload and too much overtime.
