Permanent flood walls for Clontarf are unlikely to be in place for another six years.

It follows years of rows over the height of the defences.

Now the controversial flood defences for Clontarf are not expected to be in before 2027.

Planning permission was originally secured in 2008 for seafront protections up to nine feet high.

But the project has faced a number of objections over the height of the proposed defences.

Green Party Councillor Donna Cooney says the council has informed her a six-year wait is now expected.

The latest plan involves two walls – one of which could be dismantled.

400 homes and businesses in the area are believed to be at significant risk of flooding.
