Looking for something to keep you entertained during quarantine? You and your mates living abroad might be interested in this.

The Lock Inn, a new online events venue run by a community of event producers and artists, is launching the 'All-Ireland Quiz World Cup'.

It’s a month-long quiz competition whose winning team will receive a €500 flight voucher to put towards a trip home or post-lockdown holiday.

How It Works

Competing teams will first take part in regional qualifiers, starting April 16th and 17th, across four time zones:

  • London
  • Toronto
  • Sydney
  • Dubai

There will be four qualifiers per time zone and participants can enter as many as they wish.

The top five from each qualifier will progress to the All-Ireland Quiz World Cup Final on May 16th.

Expect Irish pop culture – from Father Ted’s 25 episodes to who’s taking the horse to France – to feature in a quiz that will give the Irish diaspora the chance to see just how well they know home.

Tickets

Tickets for all qualifying events are €5 with 20% of all proceeds going to an Irish personal protective equipment GoFundMe campaign.

The overall winners’ prize of a €500 flight voucher will be for an airline of their choice.

The Lock Inn’s first event is the All-Ireland Quiz World Cup.

Over the coming weeks, The Lock Inn will launch a series of other live events.

The Lock Inn co-founder James Stafford said: “It’s a difficult time for everybody at the moment, especially those away from home. We hope The All-Ireland Quiz World Cup helps bring together the Irish community at home and abroad, while raising funds for frontline healthcare staff.

“We are a group of Irish emigrants who work in events and production. Like many across the world, we’ve recently been left with nothing to attend and nothing to work on. But we still love creating and attending great live shows. After a little thought and too many nights scrolling aimlessly on streaming platforms, we decided to create The Lock Inn and the All-Ireland Quiz World Cup.”
