While Dublin gears up for the visit of Pope Francis tomorrow, four women from Mayo have taken the greeting up a level.
They've crocheted a life sized Pope Francis doll, which they're taking to the arrivals hall of Knock airport later to welcome him with.
I am delighted to share a project that we have just completed . To celebrate the visit of Pope Francis to Co Mayo. Teresa Hughes, Jacintha Mc Donald, Maire Ni Fhearraigh from Ballavarry and myself Helen Burke haved crochet a life size Pope Francis, without using a pattern pic.twitter.com/KIqyz9kc9I

Jacinta McDonnell says the idea came to her after an apparition.
"Some time in May, I thought about the pope and I just says 'the pope is coming in August'. Now I didn't know he was coming to Knock at the time but I said 'we'll make the pope!'. And they said 'what do you mean we'll make the pope?' and I said 'we'll crochet the pope just for a bit of fun!'
The woolly pontiff has already become a hit with tourists who've been posing for selfies.
My mother spent last night baking. When asked why she was baking buns, she'd only cryptically answer 'they are for the Crochet Pope'. I assumed she had drink taken. But now I've seen the proof (a 5ft 9in crochet pontiff) and @thecontel report on it is utterly magnificent. pic.twitter.com/VoNTnkzTTS

Now is anyone thinking what we're thinking...?
