An investigation into an armed robbery in Meath is underway.

A security van was robbed at a supermarket near the Dublin border in Clonee yesterday.

Two masked men grabbed a cash box that a security man had placed on the ground outside at 2.40pm.

One of the raiders who approached the security man was armed with a hammer.

They ran off with the cash and turned on to main street and took the next left into Clonee Court

It's believed both men may have fled the scene in a waiting vehicle but full details of how they left the scene are unclear.

The raiders are described as 5'6'' to 5'8'' and were wearing black scarves on their faces.

Anyone who was in the area between 12 and 1pm or anyone with dashcam footage is asked to contact Gardai.
