Initial checks on 42 schools built by Western Building Systems will be completed by close of business today.
Two Dublin schools were forced to shut completely before the mid-term break, while three others need remedial works before they can re-open fully.
There are fears more schools could have to close due to serious fire and structural safety concerns.
The Education Minister Joe McHugh says the safety of students and staff is the department's priority.
