The UK's Supreme Court is due to rule later on whether women in the North who're denied abortions are having their human rights violated.

The result of last month's referendum on the 8th Amendment has put pressure on politicians to ensure that the North reviews its own laws.

Unlike Great Britain, the 1967 Abortion Act doesn't extend to Northern Ireland.

Judges are examining whether its unlawful to ban terminations in cases of rape or incest.

The High Court in Belfast ruled in 2015 the current law was incompatible with human rights law.

That was then overturned in June last year when the region's most serious judges decided it's a question for the Northern Assembly and not the courts.

If they decide the rules breach women's human rights, it'll heap further pressure on British Prime Minister Theresa May to act.

The DUP which is propping up her government is staunchly opposed to abortion.
