Two inquiries are underway following a riot at Cloverhill jail yesterday.
A prisoner was seriously injured in the protest while 10 other inmates were hospitalised.
It started when a group of prisoners refused to return to their cells after exercising and two of them climbed onto the roof.
The inmates ripped down goalposts and wire for use as weapons when control and restraint teams stormed the yard.
Fifteen prisoners were subsequently removed while tens of thousands of euro in damage was caused during the mayhem.
Gardai and the Irish Prison Service have launched separate investigations.
