It's been confirmed that two Dublin garda stations are to be re-opened.

The Justice Minister has announced that Stepaside and Rush are among six stations that will be brought back into use.

The Garda Commissioner has now asked the Office of Public Works to get the ball rolling.

The acting Garda Commissioner has also decided to re-open stations at Leighlinbridge in Co. Carlow; Donard in Co. Wicklow; Ballinspittle in Co. Cork and Bawnboy, Co. Cavan.

The cabinet was briefed on the decision this morning.

A Garda report says re-opening these stations on a pilot basis gives them a good geographical spread of extra coverage across the country.
