Transport Infrastucture Ireland says it's "trying to get on top" of ongoing issues with the LUAS.

The company that runs Dublin's tram service, Transdev, is understood to be holding crisis meetings with other transport officials to discuss continuing overcrowding, delays and breakdowns.

For the second day running, a tram on the Green Line broke down this morning causing major delays. It meant trams were stuck behind it, leaving thousands of people waiting on rainy platforms and late for work.

Transdev is blaming a technical fault at Stillorgan on the delay earlier today. It said there were 25 minute delays, but passengers reported delays of close to an hour.

Senator Neale Richmond says the standard service on the LUAS has dropped in the past four months.

"People are going to get the LUAS every morning, and are wondering if they will be able to fit on a tram, if they are going to wait for three trams, if they were going to be stuck on the platform, if there are enough drivers, is there enough frequency... when will this be resolved?"

Senator Richmond also claimed that "one person fainted on a tram yesterday morning, because the carriage was so over-crowded".

A scan of the LUAS timeline on Twitter shows days and days of messages apologising to customers for the disruption.

The LUAS has been beset with problems since the cross city service opened with problems at College Green having knock on delays in the suburbs.

It's prompted fresh calls to urgently introduce more longer carriages and for services to run more frequently.

Just two of seven longer trams promised for the city are on the tracks, with the remainder due to be delivered over the coming months.
