This year marks the 10th anniversary of lung transplantation and 30th anniversary of heart transplantation at the Mater Hospital.
In 2014 a total of 49 operations took place at the facility, 31 lung and 18 heart transplants.
Organ Donor Awareness Week, organised by the Irish Kidney Association, kicks off today.
Its aim is to raise awareness about the ongoing and ever increasing demand for transplantation.
At the end of last year over 700 people were awaiting surgery.
Most patients are seeking for a kidney operation, followed by heart, lung and liver transplants.
