The latest official figures show there are 9891 people living in emergency accommodation for the homeless.

Overall, the number of people accessing emergency accommodation increased by 19 when compared to June.

The Housing Minister, Eoghan Murphy, admitted "any increase in the number of people accessing emergency accommodation is unacceptable".

He said numbers presenting to homeless services in Dublin "remains a concern", and admitted the "situation would be more challenging were it not for the huge efforts being put in to prevention."

"This is possible because new homes are being found for people, but we still need significantly more homes", he said.

A motion of no confidence in the Housing Minister will be considered by Sinn Féin early next week.

The party has threatened it before without following through.

The housing, homeless and rental crisis has already led to calls for the resignation of Eoghan Murphy as Minister.

Sinn Féin TD David Cullinane says they're still considering a no confidence vote in the Minister.

"I don't have confidence in a whole range of Ministers in this Government".

He said "You have to remember Fianna Fail are keeping this Government afloat".
