The Transport Minister Shane Ross says the passing of the Road Traffic Bill in the Dail will mean lives will be saved.
The controversial legislation got through by 75 votes to 8 after months of heated debate.
It'll see stricter penalties for drink driving, with first time offenders being slapped with a temporary driving ban.
