The new owners of the Lotto say they can't rule out raising the cost of playing the game.

Premier Lotteries have been taking questions from a panel of politicians following recent technical problems.

New machines were installed in shops from last November, when The National Lottery changed hands, but many retailers have been reporting problems with ticket machines.

One of a number of technical issues lead to one draw in February being postponed for 24 hours - the first time that's ever happened in Ireland.

The retail group, RGDATA, says it's concerned Premier Lotteries is planning to hike the cost of playing before it fully irons out all its teething problems.

It's also understood the new owners are looking at adding more numbers to a game - which would lessen players' chances of hitting the jackpot.

The Chief Executive of Premier Lotteries Ireland, Dermot Griffin, said a report on what caused February's draw to be called off is being studied and the issue addressed.
