Swords is reportedly being earmarked for major development in the government's long-awaited, much trumpeted National Planning Framework.

The 115 billion euro investment plan will see dictate what infrastructure is built right across the country over the next ten years. It's due to be unveiled tomorrow.

It's claimed plans for Dublin's Metro North have been revised with the hopes they'll unlock large tracts of land for housing.

It's reported the line will run underground for longer than planned in 2015. Trains may not emerge until they reach Ballymun and Santry. It's hoped the land overgound could then be used for development.

Meanwhile there are concerns DART underground won't get funding in the government's National Planning Framework, despite being committed to in the Greater Dublin Area strategy.

The Dublin Chamber of Commerce says it's a key piece of infrastructure that would link the key train stations of Heuston, Connolly and Pearse.

Spokesperson Mark Canavan fears it's been left off the agenda because planning permission for the project expired in 2015.

"That allowed a company last year to purchase the site just off Pearse Street and Erne Street which was mooted for the location of the new Pearse Station to serve the Dart Underground. A little bit of seed funding now will save a lot of money in the future. It will allow Irish Rail to purchase sites now rather than have to buy them at triple the price in ten years time."
