Six people have been arrested following raids across Dublin, in an operation backed up by Australian police.

This swoop took place across a number of locations on the northside this morning.

Australian federal police were involved in the operation because of its international element.

A north Dublin gang is believed to be trafficking cocaine to Australia, dealing on the streets of Sydney and sending the proceeds back home to Ireland.

Crime Editor with the Irish Sun, Stephen Breen, says it's believed drugs have been supplied by the Kinahan cartel.

"It's about an organised criminal gang with close ties to the Kinahan, importing cocaine across Europe and as far away as Australia... The profits have been sent back to Ireland in various forms."

It's understood five men and one woman have been arrested in connected with the investigation.

Over 200 thousand euro in cash has also been seized and the searches are ongoing.
