The lead investigator in Paddy Jackson and Stuart Olding’s rape case accepts there were “significant inconsistencies” in the alleged victim’s account.
The Ireland and Ulster rugby players deny raping the same woman at a party at Jackson’s home in south Belfast in June 2016.
This witness was appointed Investigating Officer in the early stages of the investigation and was responsible for the day to day running of the case.
Under cross-examination by Stuart Olding’s barrister Frank O’Donoghue, she was asked to read Dr. Philip Lavery’s notes.
He told the court earlier in the trial that when he examined the complainant, she told him she’d been “vaginally raped” by two men.
In the statement she gave to police two days later, she said she wasn’t 100pc sure if Stuart Olding had sex with her.
The court heard he was initially charged with vaginal rape but that was dropped before Christmas and he's now on trial accused of forcing her to perform oral sex on him – he denies the charge.
The detective accepted there were “significant inconsistencies” in relation to the history she gave Dr. Lavery and Mr. O’Donoghue.
He asked if the possibility of a third interview with the complainant was discussed at senior investigative level and she said she didn’t know.
