Authorities from a primary school in Coolock will meet later to discuss plans to accommodate 200 students left without a classroom.

A major fire caused extensive damage to part of Scoil Chaitríona off the Malahide Road early yesterday morning. A section of the building was gutted by the blaze with the roof collapsing and windows being blown out.

The department says its junior and senior schools will remain closed this week as works take place. It says parents will be briefed once accommodation arrangements for students are made.

Education Minister Joe McHugh visited the school yesterday to assess the damage and said a plan would be put in place as soon as possible.

Meanwhile Gardaí have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire.
