Sandymount Strand continues to be ranked as having poor bathing water quality.
It's one of just two beaches across the country which has been classified as poor by the EPA, down from five last year.
The Environmental Protection Agency says the main sources of pollution for the southside beach are misconnections and sewage overflows
which contaminate streams flowing to the bathing water, dog poo and marine birds.
96 per cent of Irish beaches have been classified as having a "sufficient" water quality rating according to the report. 81 per cent were ranked as "excellent".
Meanwhile three new bathing waters were officially identified, including Half-moon in the capital.
