The government looks to be on a collision course with a major tobacco firm.
JTI Ireland wrote to a number of ministers and the Taoiseach last week, telling them to stop work on plain packaging laws by next Friday, or they could face legal action.
Children's Minister James Reilly came up with the idea in his previous role in the Department of Health and says it's not his job to protect the profits of tobacco companies.
