City Councillors will vote next month on plans that would make Countess Markievicz the first woman to be commemorated on O'Connell street.
Former Lord Mayor Vincent Jackson has proposed a statue of the Easter Rising heroine be erected on Dublin's main thoroughfare.
Supporters think she would be the ideal choice to represent the 1916 rebels.
But councillor Mannix Flynn is against the move
"I believe Countess Markievicz is well represented. These token gestures don't ingratiate anybody. They're a patronising politic and I imagine that if Markievicz was alive today, with her radical views, she would actually dismiss this nonsense."
