A person believed to be sleeping rough has been found dead in the city centre.

Homeless teams found the body of the man in his fifties on Ryder's Row off Parnell Street in Dublin 1 early this morning.

It's the first known death of a person on the streets of Dublin this year.

Anthony Flynn from Inner City Helping Homeless is trying to find out if the person had been in contact with homeless services.

"The big question here is how many beds in the system were empty last night, and why did this guy not want to go into a bed if one was available", he questioned.

He explained that "some people are afraid to go into facilities at night-time because of anti-social behaviour and substance abuse".

The person found dead hasn't yet been identified.
