Rescue teams are said to have located a car that went off Howth pier earlier this evening.
Gardaí say divers from the Garda Water Unit are attempting to retrieve the body of a man from the vehicle.
The alarm was raised after a car was reported going off the pier at around 5.15pm.
The report sparked a major multi-agency operation - with gardaí, Dublin Fire Brigade, the Irish Coast Guard and the RNLI among those who attended the scene.
