There have never been as many people before the courts on suspicion of plotting murders than there are right now.

That's according to Gardai, who are continuing to question four men suspected of planning to kill someone in the city at the weekend.

Almost 50 credible threats to life have been averted by officers in recent months, and gardai say the number of people before the court in relation to conspiracy to murder is unprecedented.

Assistant Commissioner John O’Driscoll says they are receiving cooperation in targeting criminals based outside of Ireland.

"We are targeting people at the highest level, and that will continue", he warned.

"Our level of co-operation with international authorities is at its highest level I've even known in An Garda Siochana", which he believes will help catch more criminals.

Four men are continuing to be questioned after officers stopped a van on Gardiner Street and seized a sub-machine gun, a semi-automatic pistol and a revolver at the weekend.

Two more guns, a silencer and ammunition were seized in further searches in West Dublin, and the south and north side of the city.

It's understood 40 extra Gardai have been allocated to Dublin's northside on the back of the seizures.
