A psychiatric report has been ordered in the case of a teenager who admitted trying to kill a 25 year old woman two days before Christmas 2017.

The boy - who can't be identified because of his age - cut the young woman's throat after convincing her to go to a secluded spot to take a selfie.

The schoolboy - aged 15 at the time of the attack- lured his victim to a secluded spot along the waterfront in Dun Laoghaire after they met online.

He then grabbed the victim from behind, and stabbed her in the neck.

The woman survived and was able to identify her attacker to Gardaí by showing them their interactions on line - and he was subsequently arrested on Christmas morning.

The court ordered that reports be prepared by a consultant psychiatrist and clinical psychologist.

It also requested a report from the Director of Oberstown Children's Detention Campus - where the accused has been since his arrest.

The sentence hearing was adjourned until May 9th.
