A new law has been proposed to help improve life for thousands of people living in Dublin's North Inner City.
The bill, if passed, would force governments over the next ten years to commit to tackling the area's poverty, and regenerate derelict buildings.
Fianna Fáil TD John Lahart, who introduced the bill to the Dail this afternoon, says it would specifically aim to help young people.
"Continuing to ignore the root causes of poverty, anti-social behaviour and addiction in the inner city fails to meet the needs of its residents and if anything it encourages our young people to pursue a life of crime and neglect", he said.
The main point of the bill seems to be to make sure that future governments will have to commit to the plan, and that it doesn't come undone when a government does.
The Dublin North Inner City Development Authority Bill 2018, if adopted, will require a statutory body to adhere to a minimum ten-year commitment to regenerating of the area and will be fully accountable to the Dáil.
