Every student in a Glasnevin gaelscoil has written to transport chiefs to object to a proposed construction site for Metrolink.

The playing pitches of Na Fianna GAA have been chosen to tunnel underground for the massive rail project.

The move would also affect Drumcondra's Home Farm FC while the construction site would also have an impact on Scoil Chaitriona, Scoil Mobhí and the pre-school Naoínra Thír na nÓg.

The deadline for the public to have its say on the proposed route is tomorrow.

Principal of Scoil Chaitriona, Carmel De Grae, says her pupils will be seriously disrupted.

"Every child has written a letter but also there's been a huge response from past pupils, parents, teachers just looking in horror at what might happen. Scoil Chaitriona has been providing education through Irish for 90 years. We're actually supposed to be celebrating our 90 years this year, not spending our time writing submissions."

Yesterday members of the Oireachtas Transport Committee visited the site to see the potential disruption for themselves.

They've agreed with the concerns raised by the schools and clubs but are awaiting the outcome of the public consultation.

The National Transport Authority says it will carefully consider everyone's views but you have until tomorrow to submit your objections and observations.
