Plans to upgrade Cathedral Street and Sackville Place in the city centre have been dropped.
The plans proposed replacing the existing footpaths with granite flags, although areas of historic paving and kerbs would be kept.
Existing street furniture would also be replaced, with new tree planting and seating also proposed.
The plans added: "Proposals include the removal and replacement of the existing asphalt and concrete road surfaces with a new paved granite carriageway, to include loading bays, disabled parking and taxi ranks."
However, The Irish Times reports that the plans have been dropped after Councillors backed concerns raised by the Blind Legal Alliance.
The group had argued that the proposed layouts would prove challenging for guide dog users, and also highlighted potential risks caused by bikes and taxis having access to the renovated streets.
Councillors voted against the plan by 32 votes to 20.
