A 'prison-themed' cafe could be on the cards for Dublin.

The Irish Prison Service is looking for a private operator to run the coffee shop which would employ those who have served time. It is part of an initiative to help former prisoners find work.

According to a tender advertisement, suitable memorabilia would be made available to retain a prison theme in the facility.

Executive Director of The Irish Penal Reform, Deirdre Malone believes an opportunity like this is what's needed:

"Well this is a new initiative for Ireland this type of initiative is common in other countries including in our nearest neighbour in the UK"

"It's being recognised as a really positive way to promote the further education training and employment of people coming out of prison."

"The ultimate aim of that is to reduce re-offending and also to ensure that people have stable and secure employment."
