Only three state owned properties have been identified as potentially suitable to house the homeless.

According to the Irish Times, the office of Public Works is examining Fitzgibbon Street Garda station, St Bricin's Military Hospital and a third property near Clare Street.

Dublin City Council has also identified 460 vacant social housing flats but they do not meet size standards.

The council says work has begun to combine sets of two flats into single bedroom homes.
