Only 58 Motorists Caught 'Drug Driving' Since Roadside Test Roll-Out

Just 58 drivers have tested positive for drugs in the first 8 months of new roadside tests being introduced.

From April to November last year only 1,856 Gardai had received training to carry out the tests. That's out of a potential 13,000 officers.

The month with the most number of detections was August last year when 15 drivers were caught.

The figures were given to Dublin Independent TD Tommy Broughan after submitting a Parliamentary Question.

Up until November 2017, had estimated that they'd carry out 50 thousand roadside drug tests a year
