One World Trade Center in New York is going green for the first time this St. Patrick's Day.

It will join a host of other landmarks across the world that will celebrate our national holiday.

Other famous buildings taking part in the initiative this year include City Hall in London, Plaça de Catalunya in Barcelona, and even a rhino statue in Nairobi National Park. The famous red carpet in Cannes (le tapis rouge lumineux) will also become the ‘green carpet’ on March 17th.

The new sites will join some old favourites which have gone green in previous years including:

  • The London Eye
