Not Enough Assistance Dogs For Autistic Children

The Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind is calling on people to support its Assistance Dog Programme to mark World Autism Day.  

The scheme is currently closed to new applications due to the high demand for dogs.

Last year, it was forced to close its waiting list for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder for a second time, due to a massive need for pets.

The group says more than 100 children with ASD are currently on its Assistance Dog waiting list, which is approximately a two-to-three year wait.
