Northsiders Take More Antidepressants

More people on the Northside are taking anti-anxiety and depression drugs than those on the Southside.

That's according to new research; the results of which have been made public today.

Figures from The Irish Examiner show that just under seven percent of people living on the Northside of Dublin are taking tablets for anxiety and depression.

The results of the study show that on the Southside, it works out as around 5-and-a-half percent.

It's estimated up to half a million people across Ireland are currently taking anti-depressants. The most common pills prescribed inlcude Lexapro, Xanax and Valium.

The support group Aware says it believes one in every ten people in Ireland are being affected by the condition.
