Dublin’s north inner city had the highest crime rate in the State last year.

It has the smallest population of all the 28 garda divisions with 83,200 residents, but accounted for almost one in 10 of all crimes recorded.

Official crime stats for last year show the area had a crime rate of 2,571 offences per 10,000 population.

Crime Across The Capital

According to today's Irish Times, Dublin's south inner city had the second highest rate at 1,585 crimes per 10,000 population.

The north inner city had the highest rate for 11 of the 14 main crime categories, including homicide, sex offences and assaults.

The highest rates for robberies and burglaries were recorded in the Dublin South Central division.

Dublin West, which covers suburbs including Blanchardstown, Finglas, Clondalkin and Lucan, had the third highest crime rate.
