Breast Cancer Ireland have announced a new research fellowship in memory of Emma Hannigan.
The best-selling Irish author, who passed away last month following a battle with cancer, was an ambassador for the charity.
The Emma Hannigan Breast Cancer Research Fellowship will support pioneering research taking place in the Breast Cancer Research Centre in the Royal College of Surgeons.
The inaugural award will go to research fellow Dr Damier Varislija.
Hannigan, who raised over €126k in the weeks before she died, through her TEXT CURE campaign, was a tireless supporter of the charity.
CEO Aisling Hurley comments, “The naming of this fellowship in Emma’s honour recognises her valuable contribution to our research efforts and it ensures her memory lives on in transforming the landscape of breast cancer in Ireland into the future.”
