14 people here in the city were diagnosed with HIV over the last year due to a new test in the Mater Hospital.

The swab test was developed between the hospital and the Jacobi Medical Centre in the Bronx in New York and is carried out in the A&E department.

The results were launched ahead of World AIDS day which takes place on Sunday.

Dr. Ger O’Connor is one of the doctors in the Emergency room, he says the test is non-invasive and the results are fast.
