A priest who was ordered off the Titanic at Cobh is the reason we have pictures of the infamous ship.
He’s just one of the unknown people from history who’s buried at Glasnevin Cemetary and is part of a new tour there.
The Dead Interesting Tour tells the stories of the unknown but fascinating characters that are buried there alongside some of Ireland’s most historical figures.
Conor Dodd is the lead historian there and spoke about Father Francis Brown, who is buried in the Jesuit Plot, and took photos of Titanic on its one and only voyage.
“He was given a ticket to go on the Titanic. He took lots of photographs of the inside and in fact, was given the opportunity to continue on with the ship to its final destination. But he was order off by his superior at Cobh”.
Another person was Frank DeGroot. The Dubliner became infamous in Australia after his protest saw him open the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
“He drew his sword and he charged as quickly as he could towards the ribbon and shouting out that he declared this bridge open on behalf of the honourable and decent people of New South Wales. And then he cut the ribbon”.
Conor also spoke about Maria Higgins, a Dublin woman who died once but was buried twice. 
“It’s incredible story to be honest, hard to believe. It’s quite remarkable when you get into the depths of it and find out a little more about what was going on”.
The new Dead Interesting Tour starts on Monday and takes place every day at 1pm.
