A Dublin mother whose daughter died by suicide is campaigning to make online bullying a criminal offence.

21-year-old Nicole Fox Fenlon from Clondalkin killed herself in January, after years of abuse on social media and in person.

Speaking to 98FM's Dublin Talks, her mother Jackie Fox, said she has been told the people who bullied Nicole haven't broken any law.

"If it's physical abuse, you can do something about it. If it's online, there is no law whatsoever to make someone accountable for bullying online", she explained.

During years of bullying, Jackie says Nicole "was threatened to be put on life support machine, threatened to be killed... beaten up... everything".

A group of family, friends and supporters gathered outside Leinster House this afternoon to call for a change in the law.

Jackie hopes that she can "get a law passed", as she believes "there is going to be more" people bullied on social media and wants to make sure bullying online, and not just in person, is classed as a criminal offence.
