Microsoft has announced plans to cut staff numbers worldwide by 10,000.
The tech company, which employs over 3,500 people in Ireland, says the move is due to 'changing customer priorities'.
10,000 Microsoft employees around the world have been informed they’re being let go, with some redundancies effective immediately.
It's not yet apparent how many workers in its Leixlip and Leopardstown offices will be cut and Microsoft Ireland has declined to comment.
The reduction counts for about 5% of its global workforce.
Amazon has also started cutting 18,000 jobs internationally.
Enterprise Minister Simon Coveney says the Government hasn't been informed of any collective redundancies by either company - and can't say how many Irish jobs will be lost.
Microsoft chairman and chief executive Satya Nadella said the job cuts represent “less than 5% of our total employee base, with some notifications happening today”
“While we are eliminating roles in some areas, we will continue to hire in key strategic areas,” he added.
