Met Eireann has upgraded its wind warning to a status orange for 13 counties.
Dublin, Kildare, Louth, Meath, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Clare, Kerry, Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal have been given the upgraded warning, ahead of the arrival of Storm Ali on Wednesday.
The forecaster says: "Storm Ali will track close to the west and northwest coast from the early hours of Wednesday morning until late afternoon. South to southwest winds veering westerly will increase to mean speeds between 65 and 80 km/h with gusts between 110 and 120 km/h for a time in some area. Winds strongest along Atlantic Coasts at first and later in the morning extending further east."
The orange alert is valid tomorrow from 5am until 1pm.

Meanwhile, a yellow wind warning remains for the rest of the country, which is valid from 5am to 5pm tomorrow with gusts of up to 110 km/h forecast.
The Met Eireann website states: "Very windy across Ireland from early on Wednesday morning until evening. South to southwest winds will reach mean speeds of 50 to 65 km/hr with gusts of 90 to 110 km/hr, strongest in southern, western and northern coastal areas."
Today is expected to come blustery with fresh gusty winds and highs of 16-20 degrees. There will be some rain in the afternoon.
Tonight will be windy and showery in places. However, Dublin with be dry with clear spells with lows of 9 to 12 degrees.
