The victim of last night’s fatal shooting in Walkinstown has been named as 64-year-old Edward Nugent.
Nugent was shot dead through the glass screen door at the front of his house on Harty Avenue at about 9.30 last night.
The victim was retired and not known to Gardaí and investigating officers are yet to work out whether he was the gunman’s intended target.
He was rushed to St James’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead at about 10 o’clock last night.
A burned out car was found on John McCormack Avenue near the scene and it was examined by garda experts overnight.
Forensic analysis of the crime scene will continue over the coming hours and a post mortem will also be carried out today.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was in the area between 9 and 10 last night to contact them.
