Gardaí are continuing to question a man in connection with a murder investigation, following the discovery of a body in North Dublin.

28-year-old Sean McCarthy was found dead at an apartment on Achill Road in Drumcondra on Saturday evening.

He had been missing from his house in Poppintree since last Tuesday prompting Gardaí to carry out an extensive search prior to the discovery of his body.

It's understood the 28-year-old sustained numerous gunshot wounds at the property in Drumcondra, which was sealed off for a technical exam.

An area of Griffith Park in Drumcondra was also cordoned off as part of the investigation.

A man in his 30s was arrested on Saturday night. He's still being questioned under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act and can be held for up to seven days.

An incident room has been established at Ballymun Garda Station.

A Missing Person appeal for information on Sean McCarthy has now been stood down.
