A man, who abducted a woman and repeatedly raped her, has lost an appeal against his conviction
44 year old Michael Murray formerly of Killiney Oaks in Killiney also abducted the woman’s son and left him on the street.
It was the Prosecution’s case that Michael Murray lured his victim into an apartment on the Northside in 2010 by pretending someone was sick and needed help.
He then locked her and her young son into the apartment and drugged, bound and gagged her.
He also threatened to kill both her and her son.
Murray abandoned the woman’s son on a street before returning to the apartment and further assaulting her.
He eventually left the apartment in the early hours – leaving his victim tied up in the bath.
Murray, who denied the charges, was found guilty by a jury in 2013 and was sentenced to 15 years in jail.
He appealed his conviction on a number of grounds included his garda interviews and an issue in relation to a warning to the jury about social media.
However the Court of Appeal dismissed this and on hearing the decision Murray went to leave the court and go back to the holding area before the Judge had finished speaking.
The DPP has already sought a review of Michael Murray’s 15 year jail term on the grounds of undue leniency.
