A court’s heard a Polish man told gardai ‘I’m innocent’ when he was charged with the murder of a homeless man in North County Dublin.

The 29 year old accused was brought before the Dublin District Court this morning following the death of Michal Kurek last year.

Last August, the body of Michal Kurek was found in a lane-way just outside Ballyboughal.

The 33 year old, who was originally from Poland, had been stabbed multiple times.

Michal had lived in Ireland since 2010 and had been recently become homeless before his death.

This morning a 29 year old man – also from Poland – was brought before the Dublin District Court charged with Michal’s murder at a unknown location on the 3rd or 4th August 2017.

The court heard Sebastian Barczuk of no fixed address replied ‘I’m innocent’’ when he was charged and cautioned last night at Balbriggan Garda Station.

A Polish interpreter sat with him during the brief court appearance. As it’s a murder charge, bail can only be sought in the High Court.

The accused was remanded in custody to appear in court again next week.
